Over the years, working in hospitality, corporate events, and now running my own little venture, Lemon Squeezy, I’ve learned that the magic behind a smooth event isn't a movie montage — it’s about process.
Here are a few lessons I’ve learnt along the way:
1. Organisation: the not-so-secret ingredient
I’ve juggled multiple weddings at hotels, corporate events, and my own clients all at the same time. The only way to survive (and actually enjoy it) is to have systems in place. Workflows, checklists, CRM tracking — call it boring admin if you like, but these little tools are what turn chaos into calm and keep clients happy.
2. Communication is a two-way street
Good communication isn’t just about talking — it’s about listening, reacting, and adapting. Paying attention to clients, suppliers, and team members allows me to pick up on needs, concerns, and ideas I might otherwise miss. Then responding to what I hear — adjusting plans, clarifying expectations, or offering solutions — is what keeps everything running smoothly. It’s the combination of sharing information and being genuinely receptive that prevents last-minute chaos and ensures everyone feels heard and supported.
3. Flexibility is your secret weapon
Events have a sneaky way of not going exactly as planned — and honestly, that’s half the fun. Last-minute changes, unexpected challenges, and surprise requests are all part of the game. A truly successful event is one where neither the guests nor the client notice the juggling happening behind the scenes. Staying calm, thinking on your feet, and turning problems into solutions is what separates “just another event” from one people actually remember.
These lessons aren’t just tips — they’re why I can juggle my PA role, build Lemon Squeezy from scratch, and genuinely love what I do. It’s about creating stress-free, memorable experiences for clients — and having fun along the way.
✨ Why should you care?
Because event planning is more than logistics — it’s about turning ideas into moments people actually remember. With the right mix of organisation, communication, and adaptability, anyone can make magic happen.
💡 Ever been behind the scenes of an event, or tried planning one yourself? I’d love to hear your lessons — and maybe swap a few survival tips!
